Tarabut Gateway (TG) has undergone remarkable evolution in the past 3 years as we’ve pursued our vision to become the region’s first and largest regulated Open Banking platform. And, while we experienced a lot of change in 2020, what remained constant was our dedication to building great products and the best-in-class technology. So, let’s take a look at how our 2020 looked like!
PARTNERSHIPS & NEW PRODUCT OFFERINGS
We are proud to be contributing to the growth of Open Banking in the region in 2020 through increased partnerships with financial institutions and to building a more collaborative ecosystem, with many more institutions across both Financial and Telecommunications industry on-boarding our account aggregation services. Learn more about our account aggregation case studies here. In addition, we are excited to have partnered with financial institutions on our recent product offering, payment initiation, that will allow users to make payments securely and swiftly within their mobile banking platforms of choice. In line with the recent regulatory framework developments and the issuance of Open Banking policies across the region, we have introduced a new product offering within the professional services line by providing Open Banking Compliance consultancy with the aim of helping banks to navigate through murky waters and in defining their Open Banking strategy. EXPANSION & SETTING UP OFFICES IN THE UAE
A key moment in the year 2020 for Tarabut Gateway was our entry into five new jurisdictions within the region. We have already witnessed the growth in recent regulatory developments for Open Banking and are looking forward to the next steps in driving the Open Banking movement in the region.
One of the milestones achieved for TG in 2020 is our expansion to the United Arab Emirates with two new office locations at Hub 71 in Abu-Dhabi and DIFC FinTech Hive in Dubai. We are excited for this new chapter and for our upcoming partnerships and Open Banking products. We are honored to be part of UAE’s fintech ecosystem and be able to contribute to its digital transformation of its financial sector. The reason behind the move to UAE was not just accessing a bigger market and scaling TG but also to attain and to learn from the global talent that is present in the tech-hub of the region.
“Our aim is to drive the next 50 years of banking technology and financial services in the UAE, in collaboration, rather than in competition with, existing institutions.”
“By working hand-in-hand with government authorities, banks and fintech entrepreneurs, Open Banking can propel the country towards its UAE Centennial 2071 goal of becoming a more diversified and knowledge-based economy, helping the UAE tap into the Open Banking industry which is set to reach a global market size of $43 billion over the next five years,”
Abdulla Almoayed, Founder and CEO of Tarabut Gateway
COMMUNITY ACTIVITY
At TG we are dedicated to community work. Given the nascency of Open Banking in the region, we have always been committed to raising awareness of its benefits and the opportunities it can bring to the region. Let’s take a look at some the initiatives we ran in 2020.
Launched Our Educational Platform: TG Hub!
We kicked off 2020 with the launch of TG Hub, a series of workshops with the aim and purpose to educate and build awareness on the advancement of technology and specifically on Open Banking & FinTech. We started TG Hub with a series of short-videos by industry experts touching base on a variety of topics relevant to the tech-space.

Special thanks to Khalifa AlMannai, Ameen Altajer, Yasmeen Alsaffar, Ridaa Shah, Shijaz Abdulla, Ghadeer Ghareeb, and Hend Aljeeb for your contributions and sharing your expertise.
As part of TG Hub, we offered university students the opportunity to apply for online virtual internships. The 1-month internship gives them access to attend online courses on FinTech across the globe while also gaining both experience and coursework credit.
“I had the pleasure to work as a graphic design intern in TG. It was great working within a collaborative highly spirited team that was always there to guide and help. I believe I have gained a powerful skillset that has helped me in my professional career.” – Zaina Abdulghani
Girl Code – Diversity is one of our values at TG and when we rolled out our hiring campaign, we realized that only 16 of hundreds of applicants for tech roles were females. This brought about ‘Girl code’, a webinar we hosted in which we discussed the fundamental issues concerning the gender gap in tech from both the cultural and mindset perspective.
Some of the discussion points revolved around how we can help in closing the gender gap and raising awareness on initiatives for women in tech. Learn more about the key takeaways and how to combat the gap here or watch the entire discussion here
MENA’S Big Tech Boom: Combatting the skills shortage – As part of our commitment towards educating the community on FinTech we have hosted a webinar addressing the skills gap in the MENA region by holding a discussion on what are the reasons for the gap and how can we move forward and build the skill base needed for the future of the job market.
The key discussion points revolved around fintech talent vs tech talent, challenges that hinder growth of tech skills, what are the growing roles, the difference between hiring for start-up vs that of a corporation, re-skilling at mid-career, and mentorship concerns. Read more on this here or watch the webinar here.
